Editing Services
Editing and Proofreading Service Levels:
- Basic editing/proofreading is a line-by-line review of your
(PDF, MS
Word, or OpenOffice.Org) manuscript. This service reviews manuscripts for
spelling and typographical errors, grammatical errors, punctuation, and
consistency. For example:
Spelling and typographical errors: Reviewed to ensure that misspellings or the incorrect usage of words does not hinder the readability of the document. Sound-alike words (principle/principal, to/too/two, there/their, its/it's, affect/effect) and basic word usage are also reviewed.
Grammatical errors: Reviewed to ensure that the manuscript is grammatically sound. Grammatical problems, such as subject/verb agreement, pronoun agreement, and parallel structures, are thoroughly reviewed for correctness and consistency.
Punctuation: Reviewed to ensure that the manuscript has consistent and correct punctuation. Punctuation errors, such as comma splices, serial commas, omitted commas, correct usage of semicolons, consistency of em-dashes/ellipses, and so forth, are thoroughly reviewed.
Consistency: Reviewed to ensure that terms, phrases, names, chapter headings/subheadings, lists, tables, references, and so forth, are used consistently.
Basic copy editing does not check for content organization, sentence structure, clarity, word choice, or style. Should an author need these services, a thorough edit is suggested.
- Thorough editing is a line-by-line review of your (PDF, MS Word,
or
OpenOffice.Org) manuscript. This service reviews for basic copy editing
(spelling and typographical errors, grammatical errors, punctuation, and
consistency), as well as for problems in tone, flow, dialogue, word
choice, tense, point-of-view, sentence structure, and clarity.
A thorough edit may also suggest restructuring of the manuscript to ensure that flow/transitions, presentation, and the overall organization of the content make the greatest impacts possible for the manuscript.
- Final Manuscript Reviews offer a line-by-line review of your
(PDF, MS Word, or OpenOffice.Org) manuscript. After basic or thorough
editing changes have been suggested by an editor and, then, incorporated
by the author, a final manuscript review is often needed.
This review is a last review and is recommended as a final pre-publishing step once the work has been edited and polished by the writer. This type of review is intended to catch any glaring errors before the work goes to press. Often, a final review is intended to ensure the author incorporated the original editor's suggestions correctly and that any amended work has a final proofing.
